Gabby Glide breaks own record

Chester, PA — Not only did Tim Tetrick drive six winners on Thursday’s (October 4) 12-race program at Harrah’s Chester, he partnered Gabby Glide to yet another record-breaking performance.

Last week, the 4-year-old Yankee Glide gelding trotted a 1:52.3 mile against Open Handicap company, etching his name in the record books for the fastest mile ever trotted at Harrah’s Chester, and also the fastest ever by a 4-year-old trotting gelding on a five-eighths-mile track. That record was short-lived, however, as the Sam Beegle trainee made a perfectly timed three-wide move through the far turn en route to a 1:52.2 mile on Thursday.

Gabby Glide ($2.40) got away fifth at the quarter, with 7-2 second choice American Lane (Cat Manzi) leading a :27 split. American Lane seemed well in command going to the half, backing the tempo down to :56. Despite the leisurely second quarter, American Lane saw pressure from a first-over Likeabatoutahell (Eric Goodell).

Second-over up the backstretch, Tetrick tipped Gabby Glide three-wide going into the far turn, passing the three-quarters in 1:23.4. Gabby Glide then took the lead at the head of the stretch, drawing clear by 1-1/2 lengths for the 1:52.2 score, the fastest mile ever trotted on a five-eighths-mile track in North America. American Lane held second, with Safari Heat (Roger Plante) finishing third.

Gabby Glide scored his 18th career win, and boosted his career earnings to over $160,000. Additionally, Tim Tetrick is up to 901 driving wins on the year, well within striking range of Walter Case’s record.

Live racing returns to Harrah’s Chester on Sunday, October 7, with the first of 13 races to go postward at 12:45 p.m. (EDT).
