Gamesmanship takes Open Trot at Buffalo

by Sam Pendolino

Hamburg, NY – Gamesmanship, an eight-year-old Yankee Glide gelding, went wire-to-wire and romped to a two length victory over second place finishers Striking Iliad and driver Jim McNeight in a season’s best time of 1:59.1, and won the $10,000 Featured Trot for owners Marc L. Vogel & R. Scott Wagner on Friday night at Buffalo Raceway (April 27).

Gamesmanship won the $10,000 Featured Trot in a season’s best time of 1:59.1.

Capably driven by reinsman Ken Holliday, Gamesmanship made every pole a winning one beating six rivals for his fourth win of the 2007 season over a track rated good. Setting fractions of :29.2, :58.4 and 1:29.1 to the three-quarter mark, Gamesmanship and Holliday were much the best on this damp and chilly night. Zeus (Mike Caprio) came in the show spot.

“He felt like his old self again tonight,” said Holliday. “He’s had some foot problems, but he’s okay now.”

The $5,000 share of the winning purse put Gamesmanship’s 2007 bankroll at $28,555 and $154,270 lifetime. Sherri Holliday, (Ken’s wife) who is having a good year with 30 wins in 141 starts, is the trainer. Going off as the third choice in the betting, Gamesmanship paid $13.60 to win.

Racing will resume on Saturday April 28, with first post scheduled for 6:30 PM.
