Gold Fever an upset winner in Meadows feature

by Adam Packard, for the Meadows

Meadow Lands, PA Finishing second in last week’s preferred and winning a conditioned event after breaking stride did not sway the betting public at the Meadows, Saturday night. Gold Fever was let off at 16-1 in the $10,400 preferred pace on Saturday and the seven-year-old son of Artsplace pulled the upset.

Gold Fever, owned by James Snyder, came from seven lengths back at the half to win by two and one-quarter lengths, in 1:54.1. Rodney Bolon guided Gold Fever to his second win in 2006 and his 25th overall.

Andy Shetler and I’m All Jazz, the longest shot on the board, was the early leader, but being parked to the first quarter caught up to him and the first over bid by Armbro Balmoral proved to be too much for I’m All Jazz. Armbro Balmoral had the lead around the final turn but Pembroke Flex was challenging and Gold Fever was waiting in the wings. As they turned for home, Gold Fever was tipped three-wide and he responded with a final quarter of 28.2 to score the upset victory. Magic Sugar closed from last to finish second for Dave Palone. Pembroke Flex managed to hold the third spot for Tony Hall.

Gold Fever has now earned over $250,000 in his lifetime.
