by Carol Hodes, for the New Jersey Sires Stakes

Freehold, NJ — Green Day, the Yonkers Trot winner, extended his winning streak to three in the $85,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes final for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters on Friday (September 14) at Freehold Raceway.

The son of Enjoy Lavec equaled the New Jersey Sires Stakes, Freehold Raceway and half-mile track world record of 1:56 for a 3-year-old gelding trotter shared by Arnold Plumsted (October 9, 1997) and Armbro Copenhagen (August 26, 2005). It also matched Green Day’s time in the Yonkers Trot on August 25.

Green Day ($3.00, $2.40), driven by Cat Manzi and sent off as the 1-2 favorite, took the lead at the quarter. He held off the late challenge up the inside by the pocket-sitter Princetonian ($3.00) for a neck tally. Princetonian, who is by Dream Vacation, was driven by Daniel Dube and trained by Ray Remmen. Yankee Splinter, a son of Muscles Yankee who was driven by Yannick Gingras and trained by Arlid Eggen, was third by eight lengths. There was no show wagering.

A $6,000 yearling purchase, the winner was bred by Black Horse Racing of Lebanon, N.J. Owned by trainer Jim Raymer’s Trillium Racing Stable of New Holland, Pa., Green Day has 10 wins, one second and two thirds from 17 starts this year. Lifetime, he has 11 wins, four seconds and two thirds from 26 starts and has banked $654,045.
