Freehold, NJ — Both the Hambletonian winner, Donato Hanover, and Hambletonian Oaks winner, Danae, have entered their respective divisions of the World Trotting Derby, to be held on Saturday afternoon, September 1, at the Du Quoin (Illinois) State Fair.

Post positions were drawn by Illinois First Lady Patty Blagojevich during a Monday evening race card. Post time for the Saturday card is 12:00 noon (CDT).

Donato Hanover will be looking for consecutive win number 14 in the $600,000 race against eight rivals, including two supplements. The connections of Prayer I Am and Anderberg paid a $30,000 supplemental fee to enter the race. Prayer I Am is coming off a win in the August 25 American-National Stake at Balmoral Park in 1:54.3 and Anderberg trotted a last quarter of :27.3 to finish fourth in the Yonkers Trot, also on August 25.

Adrian Chip, who was second to Donato Hanover in the Hambletonian, will also start. This past Saturday, he made a dramatic move from sixth place to trot by several horses in deep stretch of the Yonkers Trot to be third. Adrian Chip has been under quarantine restrictions imposed by the federal Department of Agriculture since arriving in the U.S. from Sweden in late July. The colt was scheduled to leave New Jersey in a sealed truck in the late afternoon on Monday, August 27. Adrian Chip is co-owned by Peter Forsberg, a two-time Olympic gold medalist (for Sweden) and Stanley Cup (for Colorado Avalanche) winning hockey player.
