Herestopatrick, Midnite Romp rematch in Apaches Fame

Toronto, ON — They dueled all through The Count B series in February. Now rivals Midnite Romp and Herestopatrick are continuing their swordplay in the Apaches Fame series for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings, the C$20,000 second leg of which goes Friday night, March 13, at Woodbine.

In last week’s Apaches Fame opener, it was Herestopatrick appropriately enough, a son of Apaches Fame — who emerged victorious, with Midnite Romp settling for third behind newcomer Its A Good Thing.

But a few short weeks ago, it was Midnite Romp (by Million Dollar Cam) who got his photograph taken in the winner’s circle in two tries out of three in The Count B series.

The two geldings have both drawn outside posts for Friday’s Apaches Fame sequel, so will likely have to use similar tactics to gain the front.

Rick Zeron will be at the lines for Midnite Romp, who is trained by Dave Gibson, while conditioner Mark Austin has tapped Luc Ouellette for the second time to pilot Herestopatrick. The oddsmakers have put their faith in Herestopatrick, rating him the 7-5 morning line favorite, but Midnite Romp has earned 2-1 odds which may shorten further on Friday night.

The clash of the sophomore colts has been scheduled as race six on Woodbine’s March 13 card. Post time is 9:10 p.m.
