Highlights galore as Plainridge opens

Plainville, MA –– A number of familiar faces found the winner’s circle during the first two days of the 2005 Plainridge Racecourse meet.

Goin To The Beach paced the fastest mile of the week at Plainridge.

Goin To The Beach, a former starter in the Bert Beckwith Memorial Pace, paced the fastest mile of the opening week when he stopped the teletimer in 1:54 flat for driver Bob Sumner. Goin To The Beach is owned by Frederick and Anita Fialkow of Wellington, Florida and trained by Matthew Medeiros.

That effort came just one race after Riblet, with Fern Paquet, Jr. in the sulky, had stopped the teletimer in 1:54.1 in the $20,000 claiming event. The five-year-old son of Jenna’s Beach Boy, trained by perennial leading trainer Marybeth Beauregard, is owned by Robert Bogigian of nearby Worcester.

A happy group was in the winner’s circle after Sent From Above won Tuesday’s feature.

The feature trotting event on Tuesday’s card went to Sent From Above, with owner/driver David Cochrane in the sulky. The eight-year-old son of Earl, who was the winningest horse at Plainridge last season, is trained by Hank Fenno.

On Monday’s card, Shawn Gray and Mike Cushing scored driving doubles, each of them visiting the winner’s circle twice in preliminary legs of the Lou Gasbarro Memorial Pacing Series.

All told driver Paquet and trainer Beauregard each won four races during the first two cards, tops in their respective categories. Mike Eaton scored three driving wins, while trainer Danny Gill tallied a pair of winners on the Tuesday card.

After a dark day on Wednesday, racing resumes at Plainridge on Thursday with post time of 4:00 p.m.
