Melrose Park, IL — Brent Holland posted his 3,000th career driving win in Thursday night’s (May 17) first race at Maywood Park with Mike Brown’s Hit The Hyway. The 8-5 winning favorite was Holland’s only drive on the 12-race program. The victory was also his 100th dash winner of the year.

Brent Holland had time to adjust his glasses when Hit The Hyway hit the finish wire in Thursday’s first race, giving the Ohio native career victory number 3,000.

The 35-year-old native of Wilmington, Ohio hustled the 3-year-old filly to the front from the six post in the $8,000 claiming event and Hit The Hyway went on to post her first triumph in 13 tries on the current campaign with a 1:57.4 clocking.

“While I’m obviously pleased to have 3,000 winners, I don’t set any goals,” said Holland, who is in his 20th season as a professional driver. “I just go out every night and try to do the best I can. To get this many winners you not only have a lot of drives, but you need to have good drives to succeed. You have to have the chance to drive for stables that classified their horses right and fortunately I have had that opportunity, especially this year with Erv (trainer Miller) giving me the chance to drive many of his good young horses.”

Horses that Holland has driven have won over $1 million for the past nine seasons, with Brent’s best year coming in 2000 when he notched 307 winners with his drives earning over $3.1 million.
