Grand Circuit Report: Week of May 24, 2009

This Week: Hoosier Park Grand Circuit, Hoosier Park, Anderson, Indiana

Schedule of events: The Hoosier Park Grand Circuit is scheduled for Saturday afternoon (May 30) at the Indiana oval, with $750,000 in stakes purses up for grabs. The marquee event is the $500,000 Hoosier Cup for 3-year-old colt pacers. A field of 12 will go to the gate at approximately 4:45 p.m. (EDT), led by Berry’s Creek champion Annieswesterncard, Suslow Series winner River Shark and Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund victor Mr Wiggles. The program also includes ten $25,000 Indiana Sire Stakes races for 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits.

Last time: The 2009 Grand Circuit season opener concluded on May 8-9 at Freehold Raceway with the $181,369 Dexter Cup Final for 3-year-old colt trotters and three divisions in the $105,925 Lady Suffolk for 3-year-old filly trotters.

The Dexter Cup Final went to Christina Takter, John Fielding, Goran Anderberg, and Jim Fielding’s Anders Bluestone with a come from behind effort in 1:55.3. Tim Tetrick was in the bike for the Jimmy Takter trainee, who scored by 1-3/4 lengths over Vesuvio AS (Jim Meittinis). Citation Lindy (Ray Schnittker) was placed third after Muscle Mayhem (David Miller) was disqualified and set back to sixth for violation of the breaking rule.

Capturing $34,975 Lady Suffolk divisions were Andray Farm and William Gregg’s Gabbys Dream (Andy Miller) in 1:59.3 and George & Tina Dennis Inc. and Ask W Stables Inc.’s Rapsong (George Dennis) in 2:00. The $35,975 Lady Suffolk split went to Domenico Costagliola’s Regina Hall (Cat Manzi) in 2:00.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: Six drivers share the early Grand Circuit lead, each with one winning drive. The six are George Brennan, George Dennis, Cat Manzi, Andy Miller, Jimmy Takter, and Tim Tetrick.

Looking ahead: The Grand Circuit will be off until early July when action resumes at both The Meadowlands (Historic Series races) and Goshen Historic Track (Landmark Stakes).
