Pompano Beach, FL — Hyde Park Hussie N ($4.80) showed her heels to the rest of the field in the Mares Open Handicap Pace on Friday at Pompano Park, leading from start to finish in a lifetime best 1:542 victory.

Driven by Marc Aubin, it was the fifth win this year for the six-year-old New Zealand bred mare by New York Motoring, who won by one and three-quarter lengths for owner/trainer David Deuschie of Wellington. Buttons ‘N Bows (Terry Morgan) was second with the pocket-sitting Western Way (Wally Hennessey) third.

In the 10th race Open Handicap Trot, that pesky, mosquito-type fly, Midgie ($2.80), was at his best once again, leading from start to finish in 1:571 for driver Wally Hennessey. Buddywhatshisname (William Griffin) was second with Roadster (Stephane Lareau) third.

It was the second straight win and seventh victory on the year for Midgie, a seven-year-old gelding by Donerail, who is trained by Jim McDonald and is owned by the Knockout Stable of Margate. Midgie won by one and three-quarter lengths.

Pompano Park will host the inaugural Broward Carnival Kulture Fest at the track from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday featuring live bands, children’s entertainment, costumes, arts & crafts displays, plus specialty foods and drinks. Admission and parking are free.
