Jereme’s Jet returns in Pompano Open Pace

by Michael Costanzo, public relations coordinator, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Millionaire pacer Jereme’s Jet, who was named 2-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in 2005 by the U.S. Harness Writers Association, will make his 4-year-old debut at Pompano Park on Saturday (March 17) in the third race $10,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Owned by the Genesis Racing Stable of Plainfield, Ill., and trained by Tom Harmer, Jereme’s Jet earned $1,039,376 during his juvenile season, with victories in the $840,000 Metro Stakes Final at Mohawk, the $593,032 Governor’s Cup Final at Woodbine, and the $575,400 Breeders Crown Final at the Meadowlands.

During his sophomore campaign, the son of Western Hanover, out of the millionaire mare Ohyouprettything, visited the winner’s circle on six occasions, including consecutive 1:48.1 victories in the Review Stakes for 3-year-old pacers at Springfield and the Hayes Memorial Stakes at Du Quoin.

In his last pari-mutuel appearance, Jereme’s Jet crossed the wire first in the $250,000 Windy City Pace at Maywood Park on November 17, 2006. He has since returned to win a qualifying heat at Pompano on March 2, where he covered the mile in 1:54.1.

Installed as the 9-5 morning line favorite for the Saturday feature, Jereme’s Jet has been assigned post six and will be driven by Harmer.

Leading the contingent of pacers looking to spoil the seasonal debut of Jereme’s Jet is Eleven A M, owned by the Berry Stables of Staten Island, N.Y., and trained by Tom Beckette.

A winner of 10 starts last year and with a career bankroll over $335,000, Eleven A M has prevailed in two of three outings at Pompano this season. The son of Falcon Seelster exits a convincing 1-1/4 length victory in last weekend’s Open Handicap Pace where he covered the mile in 1:52.2.

Listed as the 2-1 second choice, Eleven A M will start from post four and will be driven by Bruce Ranger.

Golden Mattjesty and Lislight N, the second and third place finishers from last week’s Open Handicap Pace, return for Saturday’s affair, in addition to Isle of Capri Pacing Series participants Weekend Bernie and Shattered Halo.

$5,000 in betting vouchers to be given away on Saturday

Pompano Park will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by giving away a total of $5,000 in betting vouchers to lucky patrons on Saturday evening. The drawings will be held in the winner’s circle after races four through eight, with a grand prize giveaway of $1,000 after race eight.

Entry slips will be distributed at the grandstand entrance. Patrons must be age 18 or older to be eligible and present to claim their prize. There may only be one winning entry per person on the night.
