Jett Away guns for third straight

Dover, DE — George Brems’ Jett Away has come into her own of late, winning two in a row, and takes on eight rivals in the $25,000 Mares Open Handicap on Tuesday, March 23 at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.

Bret Brittingham drove the emerging four-year-old daughter of Dream Away to an impressive 1:531 triumph last week, racing uncovered for the last half mile en route to her third win of the year in seven starts, with a second and two thirds.

Crossfire N, owned by Wendy Crissman and 49 Racing Stables, closed to finish second for Mike Cole with Tanah Merah Farms’ front pacing Armbro View and Jim Morand holding on for third last time.

A new face in the distaff feature is Florence Nitkowski’s Miss Mac Anvil, a winner of four of her last five starts at Rosecroft. Ross Wolfenden will drive her from the second tier.

The other starters are Brooks Stables’ Hasty Dewar, leaving from the rail with Kevin Sizer, Jeff Franklin’s Rain Dance Kim, driven by Travis Bowman, alongside, Les Walls and Jack Upchurch’s Cams Little Imp N, teamed with Brad Hanners, Niss Allen Inc.’s Ann Other Porsche, with Eddie Davis, and John Sixt and Judith Blaun’s Hugs Fanci, Eddie Davis, Jr. driving.

The sub feature is an $18,500 Mares Winners Over Pace. Two of the nine starters step up after scoring wins last week. Ezy Dell N (Kevin Sizer), a horse purchased by Rhonda and trainer Bob Smith over the internet fouryears ago and Whodathunkit Stable’s Don’t Curse Me (Clifton Green) attempt to continue their winning ways as they meet sharp opposition headed by William Moffett Inc.’s Nuclear Power (Eddie Davis), Carter Racing’s Felicity (Jim Morand) and Gary and Barbara Iles’ Scissor Magic (Brad Hanners).

The rest of the field includes upset potentials, Betty Brittingham’s Chocolate Square (Bret Brittingham), Wilson and trainer Jeff Clark’s Rondel Franco N (Eddie Davis, Jr.), Louie Paglierani’s Yankee Vista (Les Givens) and Betty Long’s Belly’s Up (Brad Hanners).

Mitch and Pearl Fisher’s Miss Fish Lady (Art Stafford, Jr.) and Max Walton’s Iwannaholdyourpan (Roger Plante) are fresh from impressive wins last week as nine go to post in the day’s leadoff event, a $13,700 Delaware Pace.

In a $12,000 Mares Pace, owner, trainer, driver Roger Plante’s Seasin, Clair Corle and driver Roger Hammer’s My Gal Phyl, and Nick Callahan’s Golden Tan (Jim Morand) were 1-2-3 respectively last time out.
