Northfield, OH — A number of probable entrants in Saturday’s (May 23) $125,000 (est.) Miller Lite Courageous Lady at Northfield are racing in Pennsylvania Sires Stakes action at The Meadows as this is being written, and with good results, will head up the turnpike from the Pittsburgh area track.

Sand E Fiftyfive, trained by Northfield regular Tye Loy, won almost $104,000 at two, winning a $40,298 Sires leg and a $41,133 Keystone Classic. She also finished second in her $34,173 Standardbred split at the Delaware County Fair and was third in the $150,000 Pennsylvania Sires Championship.

Sand My Shark, who trainer Jim Arledge, Jr. has already committed to the Courageous Lady, is in the same $49,078 leg.

Cam’s Van Go is the second choice in her Sires heat, as is Backstreet Sweetie in her division. Backstreet Sweetie is trained by John Pentland for owners Karen Carroll, Natalie Pentland and Mike Saftic, who is her regular driver.

Dan Altmeyer trainee, Singnoevil Hanover, another filly with a solid 2-year-old campaign, banking over $80,000, makes her second start of the season on Monday.

The final Sires heat at The Meadows sees another Altmeyer student, Tuppence Hanover, going postward.

The Courageous Lady appears to have lost a few contenders after good results at Tioga Downs on Sunday. Indulge Me won a $12,500 elimination of the Empire Breeders Classic, to qualify for the $200,000 final next week. Expected to join her are Allamercian Caress, who finished third in her elim, and Ed Mullinax’s Up Front Kelli Jo, who was third behind Indulge Me.
