by Carol Hodes, for the SBOA of New Jersey

Manalapan, NJ — Lady In The Wind held off Rapsong to win the $51,200 New Jersey Futurity for New Jersey-sired 3-year-old trotters, the second race on Friday, Sept. 25, at Freehold Raceway.

The Windsong’s Legacy filly trotted the mile in 1:58.3 for her third victory. She has finished in-the-money in nine of 12 starts. Bred and owned by Dreamland Farms of Cream Ridge, N.J., Lady In The Wind improved her bankroll to $78,207. She was unraced at two.

Driven by David Miller and trained by Joseph King, Lady In The Wind ($3.40, $2.10, $2.10) was on the lead at every pole. Rapsong ($2.20, $2.10), also a daughter of Windsong’s Legacy, stalked the odds-on favorite but could not make up ground in the stretch. The three colts and geldings in the race were well out of contention with Homer Jay ($2.80), a son of Muscles Yankee, third by 10-1/2 lengths.

The New Jersey Futurity is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.
