The final day of the yearling portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, ended with a bang as a son of Andover Hall, Lord Of The Wings (#768 Queen Of Angels by Valley Victory), sold for a daily record of $250,000. Sold by Peninsula Farm for breeder Michael Andrew of Gorham, Maine, the colt, first after two fillies out of that dam, was bought by Maurizio Biasuzzi.

Other Wednesday offerings that brought six figures were another Andover Hall, this one a filly, Touch Of Scotch out of the Super Bowl mare Dalwhinnie, who was purchased for $125,000 by Anders Andersson of Sweden from Vieux Carre Farms. Secret Lives (Hip # 810 Conway Hall-Spicy Secret), consigned by Peninsula Farm for Herb Liverman sold for $105,000 by Neal Goldman of Washinton Township, NJ.

The three days combined saw a total of $36 million spent on yearlings, with an average price of $38,895 overall. The average for trotters was $45,989, while pacers brought $34,321 on average. The progeny of full brothers Andover Hall and Conway Hall brought top dollar among all stallions, $76,511 and $77,464 respectively.

Buyers paid an average of $54,252 for the 147 New York Sires Stakes eligible yearlings sold at Harrisburg.

“Just a very, very strong sale, from beginning to end,” is how Sales Manager Murray Brown summed it up. “The $250,000 colt on Wednesday (Lord Of The Wings) was a surprise but it’s a question of getting two people who want the same thing and they don’t want to go home without it.”
