Campbellville, ON — Lavec Dream took advantage of a late break in stride by Peaceful Way to capture Saturday night’s (June 30) C$354,000 Armbro Flight Stakes Final for older female trotters at Mohawk Racetrack in 1:52.3.

The clocking was just two-fifths off of the track and stakes record which was established by Peaceful Way when she captured the 2005 edition of the Armbro Flight.

Yannick Gingras had a choice of Lavec Dream or Classic Oaks champion Buck I St Pat coming into the final and took the former after her impressive elimination victory last Saturday night in an identical clocking.

This week, Gingras got the 6-year-old Enjoy Lavec mare off the wings first and established command in the first quarter of :28. As the field raced to the half, Lavec Dream yielded to Peaceful Way who took the field past the half in :56 and three-quarters in 1:24.4, before facing some first-over pressure from Passionate Glide.

Turning for home, Peaceful Way kicked away by a couple of lengths and appeared home free with a sixteenth to the finish. Gingras kept after his mare, however, as he noticed Peaceful Way starting to get steppy coming to the tote board. Peaceful Way eventually rolled into a break and Lavec Dream was there to pick up the pieces. Passionate Glide came on to pick up second with Snazzy Millie grabbing the show spot.

“I thought the fractions were fair enough,” said Gingras during a winner’s circle interview. “Peaceful Way kicked away at the top of the stretch, but I saw Paul (driver Paul MacDonell on Peaceful Way) collect his mare up when she got a bit bumpy in deep stretch. My mare still trotted strong to the wire and we got there.”

It the was third win in 11 tries this season for the Mark Silva-trained Lavec Dream and boosted her career bankroll to more than C$545,000 for Pete Kleinhans Racing Inc. of Flemington, N.J.
