Loyal Opposition wins Overbid Prelim; You Tell Gordy & Gryffindor take Matt’s Scooter divisions

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – March 18, 2005 – Loyal Opposition [$3.60, $3.40, $2.60] held off She’s My Belle [$13.40, $6.40] for a head victory in the fifth race, the $50,000 second leg of the Overbid Series for free for all pacing mares, on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Loyal Opposition edged She’s My Belle to win the 2nd leg of the Overbid Series.

Loyal Opposition, the 2004 Pacing Mare of the Year, picked up her second straight victory, fourth in six starts this year, pacing the mile in 1:50 flat.

Odds On Charmaine [$3.80] was third by two and three-quarter lengths.

Loyal Opposition, who has earned $1.9 million lifetime, is owned by Daniel Waxman of Ancaster, Ontario.

“The trip worked out great,” said driver George Brennan. “Coming into the final, she’s had two great trips, it can only help her. With these two races, I really haven’t had to use her. I’m anxious to race her in the final.”

“She’s very good right now, very sharp and happy, especially when she gets her way,” said Amy Sronce, assistant to trainer Erv Miller. “George said she was just perfect tonight. We’re hoping she can be this good next week and drop in and get another good trip.”

You Tell Gordy took the first of two Matt’s Scooter Series divisions.

In the second race, the first of two $16,000 divisions of round two of the Matt’s Scooter Series, You Tell Gordy [$22.00, $8.40, $4.60] rallied for a two and a quarter length victory over Paisan Hall [$18.20, $5.40] in 1:53.4.

JJ’s Gazette [$2.40] was placed third on the disqualification of Mega Hall, who broke stride.

Driven by Patrick Berry and trained by Robert Siegelman, You Tell Gordy posted his first win in his sixth start of the year. He was not raced in 2004.

A son of Cam’s Card Shark, You Tell Gordy races for the Cheyenne Gang of Port Washington, New York.

Gryffindor [$13.00, $6.20, $4.40] got up in the final strides to edge Jo Pa’s Shark [$6.20, $4.80] for a neck victory in the third race, the second division, in a lifetime best of 1:52.1. Robin of Locksley [$4.80] was third by a half-length.

Gryffindor, driven by Eric Ledford, picked up his second straight win in the 2nd division of the Matt’s Scooter.

Gryffindor, driven by Eric Ledford and trained by Noel Daley, picked up his second straight win in the Matt’s Scooter. Overall, he has three wins in five starts this year.

Sterlingbrook Farms Inc. of Sheldonville, Massachusetts, owns the three-year-old son of Dragon Again.

The $104,450 Matt’s Scooter Final and the $122,000 Overbid Final are the co-features on Friday, March 25.
