Maine Governor Signs Bill For Racino Developers

Maine Governor John Baldacci has signed into law a bill that gives racino operators in Maine the right to withold certain information in applying for a state gaming license.

Accvording to a story in the Portland (Maine) Press Herald, Penn National Gaming had said that without a law assuring that sensitive information would be protected from public release, they could not have submitted some information to complete the licensing process. Penn National will be operating the racing and slots business at Bangor Raceway.

The signed bill represents a compromise between multiple legislative committees, Penn National, the governor’s office and the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition.
