Mare takes on male rivals at Pompano

by Steve Wolf, Director of Marketing, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Jujitsu Hanover, a winner in three of her past four starts and one of only three mares against six male rivals, heads the seventh race $5,200 featured trot at Pompano Park on Wednesday.

Her main rivals will be The Rotterdam, who won his last start and Flashy Message, a $427,000 career winner.

Starting from post seven for trainer/driver Dewayne Minor, Jujitsu Hanover is a $108,000 winner who has beaten male rivals the past month, losing only once by a neck. The daughter of Donerail, owned by Annemette Minor of Delray Beach, Florida, is the 7-2 second choice in the race.

The favorite is Mike and Arthur Biel’s Flashy Message at odds of 5-2 from post three. The oldest horse in the field at age 10, Flashy Message has but one win in nine starts this year but last week was a game third place finisher in the Open II Trot and is dropping in class for Wednesday’s match-up. He will be driven by Bruce Ranger.

The Rotterdam starts from post four for owner/trainer/driver Robert Reeser of Margate, Florida and last week won for the first time this year with a two and one-quarter length triumph in 1:572.

Other contenders include Abundaprince (post six), Benn’s Margie (post one) and Electric Muscles (post nine).

The sixth race $5,200 co-featured trot is headlined by E B Joe going for his third straight win for trainer Paul Kennedy, Jr. Although saddled with having to start from the far outside in post seven for driver Kevin Wallis, E B Joe is the 5-2 favorite. He has won his last two outings from both on and off the pace and two starts back won from post eight.

His rivals are Fester The Pester, who won in a romp last week by five and one-half lengths in 1:583, Du Vallon Car, who was second last week to E B Joe and Prince Of Trot, a winner two starts back for trainer Lawrence Nichols.
