Melrose Park, IL — The dream season for Hambletonian winner Market Share continued on Friday night at Maywood Park as the Linda Toscano trainee etched his name in the sports history books as well as the Maywood Park record books winning the $108,000 Galt Stake for 3-year-old trotting colts by 3-1/4 lengths in a stakes and track record time of 1:54.4. With the win Market Share also eclipsed the $2 million mark in seasonal earnings making him just the fourth trotter in the history of the sport to reach that plateau.

Eased away from post position five by driver Tim Tetrick the son of Revenue S-Classical Flirt landed in the four-hole as Prayer Session (Dave Magee) charged to the front taking the field by the quarter in 28.0.

“I knew Dave was going to be charging out of there,” said Tetrick. “Since my horse likes to have a target I really wasn’t concerned about letting some horses in front of us even if it meant being first over.”

Steadily working his way towards the leader as splits of 56.4 & 1:25.5 went up Tetrick had Market Share poised to pounce on Prayer Session as the two trotters headed into the final bend.

Looking like he had found another gear Market Share quickly gobbled up the leader and easily opened up a two-length advantage.

On cruise control the rest of the way Market Share effortlessly rolled under the wire with his 10th win in 20 starts this season and the new title of fastest trotter in the history of Maywood Park. Lindy’s Jersey Boy (Daniel Dube) rallied up the inside to finish second while Appomattox (David Miller) was third.

In the winner’s circle a very happy Tetrick was gushing with praise for the one of the greatest three-year-old trotters of all time.

“He’s just such a great horse and an absolute pleasure to drive,” said a smiling Tetrick. “He can overcome any kind of trip and he just keeps giving you everything he’s got. Now to be mentioned with those other horses that have made $2 million in a year is just the icing on the cake.”

With no show wagering on the race Market Share returned just $2.10 & $2.10 while moving his bankroll to $2,001,405 for the ownership group of Richard Gutnick, TLP Stable and William Augustine.
