Matt Rose’s Picks: May 30 YR

by Matt Rose

Matt Rose offers his picks for the $20,000 Pick-4 at Yonkers Raceway on May 30, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering program.

Yonkers Raceway Pick-4, Races 7-10, Monday May 30, 2011

Aother week, another debacle. Last Monday’s Pick-4 was off to a good start, as my key in the first leg took care of business as the favorite. It all went wrong in leg three when a very playable longshot won that I did not have covered.

This week’s Pick-4 consists of some wide-open races on paper, but I’m going to take a stab with a scaled-back ticket, hoping to make a score with a small investment.

$1 Play: 235/125/25/6 = $18

Analysis:

Race 7: (3) Arts Shadow dropped last week for Lou Pena and got the job done. He stays at the same level tonight and gets a narrow call. (2) Hushhush Mushmush has been solid in all recent efforts, hitting the board in his last six. He’s got speed and a good post. (5) Duncans Western returns locally and is back with Jason Bartlett. The gelding looks like a contender here.

Race 8: (2) Bonus Miles was in a tough spot from the eight hole last week, bringing an end to his two race win streak. He can be a win threat here with any type of live trip. (1) Tivoli Hanover has a ton of speed and also gets much-needed post relief. Larry Stalbaum’s choice here will likely be on the lead or in the pocket. (5) In The Mix has plenty of class and was much-improved last out.

Race 9: (5) American Rage was caught in a tough spot in his local debut, escaped late and closed with a ton of pace. He looks like a must-use here. (2) Arockin Hanover was outfinished off a live trip upon arrival. The 3-year-old should build off that effort.

Race 10: (6) Shortstacked gets major class relief tonight and I would expect an aggressive steer from Eric Goodell.
