Me And My Baby, Isabella Blue Chip take Sweetheart Elims

A pair of $20,000 elimination races that determined the 10 two-year-old pacing filles in the $435,000 Sweetheart Final on August 4 were co-featured on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

In the first division, fifth race, 1-5 favorite Me and My Baby [$2.60, $2.10, $2.20] took the lead in the backstretch and held on for a half-length victory over Speed Date [$3.80, $2.80] in a lifetime best 1:53.1. Jayne’s Character [$2.80] was third by five and three-quarter lengths. Also qualifying for the final were Mach Time and Anza Hanover, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Me and My Baby, driven by Cat Manzi and trained by Bruce Nickells, extended her winning streak to three. The daughter of Artiscape- My Baby and Me, won the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final for two-year-old pacing fillies on July 12 at the Meadowlands.

Isabella Blue Chip [$4.60, $3.20, $2.60] out paced Cantor’s Daughter [$4.60, $3.00] and B J’s Sunrise [$3.40] down the stretch to win the second division, sixth race, by a half length, in a lifetime best 1:53.2. Catch the Show and Mind Boggling rounded out the qualifiers for the $435,000 final on August 4.

Driver David Miller scored his third stakes victory on a four-winner night with the George Teague trainee. The daughter of Bettor’s Delight- iminthemoodforlove, Isabella Blue Chip, won her third race in five starts.
