East Rutherford, NJ -Time is running out for those considering entering horses in the Meadowlands January Select Mixed Sale, as the deadline for Tattersalls’ flagship auction is Monday (Dec. 10) at 9 a.m.

The sale will be held on its customary day on the calendar, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which this year falls on Monday (Jan. 21).

“I urge our sellers to try and make the main catalog. There’s a big extra benefit in having their horses in front of potential buyers for a longer period of time,” said sale manager David Reid.

Last year’s January sale, the company’s largest venue, grossed more than $6.6 million, which represented an increase of 6.5 percent over the previous year. The average of $30,290 was up as well, 12.2 percent over 2017.

The sale-topper, Miso Fast, made $250,000, while six others sold for $100,000 or more.

One of the largest crowds in sale history was in attendance, with horses sold to a deep bench of buyers from the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Reid said recent sales point to the fact that there has been no letup in top prices for quality horses. “Top-level racehorses that are ready to drop in the box, along with fashionably-bred fillies with stakes credentials, still top the charts. There are just not enough of those out there to satisfy a continually growing demand.”
