East Rutherford, NJ — The 2018 edition of the Crawford Farms Meadowlands Pace has drawn 15 declarations including a pair of supplements in Courtly Choice and Jimmy Freight when the box closed Tuesday morning.

As a result there will be two $50,000 elimination races on Saturday (July 7) with the top five from the official order of finish moving on to the $700,000 (est.) final on July 14.

Trainer Tony Alagna has entered five horses led by his O’Brien Award winner Stay Hungry and American History, who tuned up with a vicious 1:47 win last Saturday.

The list of 15 horses entered for the Meadowlands Pace are as follows: American History, Babes Dig Me, Captain Deo, Courtly Choice, Dorsoduro Hanover, Fashiononthebeach, Grand Teton, Hayden Hanover, Ideal Feeling, Jimmy Freight, Nutcracker Sweet, Odds On Lauderdale, Stay Hungry, Thinkbig Dreambig and This Is The Plan.

Supporting the Pace eliminations are the $250,000 Graduate Series finals with full fields of the top 4-year-old trotters and pacers currently racing.

Saturday’s card is one of the highlights of the Meadowlands Championship Meet and it is important to note that the races will start at an earlier than usual post time of 6:35 p.m.

When a teenage John Fodera began owning racehorses 57 years ago, he had no idea where it would lead him. But over the ensuing years, his involvement has brought him to the winner’s circle in many of harness racing’s great events, including the Breeders Crown, North America Cup, Little Brown Jug and Metro Pace. He will try again this year to add the Crawford Farms Meadowlands Pace to the list. Fodera, a Staten Island resident who has attended races at the Meadowlands since opening night in 1976, is a partner on three horses in Saturday’s eliminations for the Meadowlands Pace. All three — American History (above), Babes Dig Me and Captain Deo — are trained by Tony Alagna.
  • Butenschoen is hopeful for ‘excellent’ Bill’s Man in Graduate final (Friday, July 06, 2018)
John Butenschoen expects a good effort from Bill’s Man in Saturday’s $250,000 Graduate Series championship for 4-year-old trotters at the Meadowlands Racetrack. The only question is how good. “Some days he’s a real good horse, some days he’s an excellent horse,” Butenschoen said. “If the real good horse shows up, we should be able to get a check. If the excellent horse shows up, we are good enough I think to win. There are times when he is absolutely fantastic and there are times that he’s just a really, really good horse. It’s going to depend what horse shows up. We’ll see.”
