Meadows returns to night racing

from the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association

Meadow Lands, PA — Harness racing will take place under the lights at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino on Monday (June 1) for the first time in nearly two years.

When the Adios Day card in August 2007 concluded, the old grandstand was torn down to make way for the new casino. Also taken down at that time were the lights that illuminated the homestretch and had been anchored to the 40-plus year old building.

Tonight, for the first time since 2007, the lights will come on once again for harness racing, as the track’s first race will begin at 6:20 p.m, with racing expected to conclude just before 11 p.m.

According to Kim Hankins, Executive Director of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, “We are truly excited to get back to night racing. While we have become one of the nation’s leading afternoon tracks over the past two years, we look forward to bringing our high quality racing product to the nighttime crowds that not only wager across the nation, but also to the local community. Not everyone can make it to the track to see live racing during the day, so this represents a great chance for our local fans to return to the track and see all of the changes that have taken place around here over the past two years. They will be pleasantly surprised at what they see, not only with the new casino, but with the quality of horses we are now attracting to The Meadows.”

The track will continue racing at 6:20 p.m. throughout the summer, with action on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
