Miami Valley guarantees Pick-5 Sunday

Lebanon, OH — Buoyed by a $6,230 carryover, Miami Valley Raceway–in conjunction with the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Platform–has decided to guarantee a minimum $15,000 gross wagering pool on its Sunday (April 3) Pick-5 wager.  The 50-cent bet has gone unsolved for two consecutive programs at the southwest Ohio track, a rare occurrence for a non-Jackpot Pick-5.

Sunday’s Pick 5 sequence encompasses races 10-14 with an estimated off time of 5:10 p.m.

The initial Pick 5 event is the featured $35,000 championship of the Tom Tharps Memorial Series.  The field includes the nine highest money winners in the two preliminary legs leading up to the final, all of whom were non-winners of six races or $60,000 when nominated.  JK Going West (Trace Tetrick) has been installed the 5-2 morning line favorite, despite failing to win a preliminary heat from a pair of outside posts.  Others sure to get significant play are No Free Lunch (Tyler Smith, 7-2), JW’S Chrome (Kayne Kauffman, 4-1), Cody Hanover (Dan Noble, 9-2) and King Klueber (Brett Miller, 8-1).  Smile Today (Sam Widger, 10-1), Laughagain Hanover (Chris Page, 10-1), Sweet Oliver (Ed Hennessey, 15-1) and Topville Rustler (Mike Peterson, 20-1) are in good current form as well.

Leg 2 of the Pick-5 is also a late-closing event, the second $15,000 division of the second leg of the Omar Hiteman Memorial Series for non-winners of two or $20,000 trotters.  Seaside Way (Page, 5-2), Big Fritz (Cam McCown, 7-2) and Navigator (Miller, 5-1) were awarded morning line preference, but first leg winner The Mad King (Smith, 8-1) and runners-up Hoosier Hypnotic (Kauffman, 6-1) and DL’s Hard Cider (Austin Hanners, 20-1) could spring a surprise.

A group of ten talented mares comprise the field for Leg 3 (Race 12) of the Pick-5.  The mixture of high condition and $20,000 claiming mares will chase a $15,000 purse with Satdnite Jukebox (Miller) the lukewarm 3-1 morning favorite.  Heavenissofaraway (Page, 7-2), Fancy And Fast (Smith, 4-1), Skateboard Chic (Josh Sutton, 5-1) and Sugar Dance (Hennessey, 8-1) are likely to grab attention as well.

For those still alive in the Pick-5, the final two races feature mid-range distaff condition-claimers and bottom level male condition pacers.  Stephanies Hope (Miller), Ms Parklane Power (Smith) and Rockin’ Artsy (Kauffman) enter the 13 race as favorites of the morning line oddsmaker; while Smokey Joes Cafe (Page), Statham N (Jason Beattie) and CG’s Boy Toy (Smith) got the nod in the finale.

Program pages for the Pick 5 sequence will be available via the ustrotting.com website on Sunday morning.

First race post time on Sunday at Miami Valley is 4:05 p.m.
