Harrisburg, PA — Broodmares and broodmare prospects were the order of the afternoon at the Standardbred Horse Sale on Thursday, with Malabar Mist (#1351) selling for $260,000 to Broline International of Sweden. For The Luva Moni (hip #1349) went to Diamond Creek Farm for $210,000, with the young trotting mare China Tea Party (hip #1348) selling for $200,000 to Herb Liverman of Toronto. Lost Lady One (hip #1333) sold for $180,000 to Albert Adams.

Lovely Shark p,2,1:54, a 5-year-old daughter of Cam’s Card Shark in foal to Rocknroll Hanover, led the parade of bloodstock on Thursday morning, selling for $230,000 to Perretti Farm.

Lovely Shark sold at Harrisburg for $230,000.

Lovely Shark is a daughter of Lovely Lady, who is a half sister to Worldly Beauty p,3,1:51.1 ($1,900,255). She was consigned to the sale by Yankeeland Farm.

Lovely Shark is a half sister to Art’s Temptress, p,3,1:51.3 ($384,445).

Bob Marks, the marketing director at Perretti Farm, was bullish on Lovely Shark.

“I thought she was the best mare in the sale. She’s from the World Order (second dam) family of Worldly Beauty. She’s a good looking mare; of course you could find some fault with her, but she’s also carrying a first foal to Rocknroll (Hanover, who stands at Perretti Farm) and that alone could bring a hundred and a half. It was a little over what it should have been, but it’s a horse sale and that’s what happens.”

Ucalthisahoneymoon (Yankee Glide-Armbro Niagara) also changed hands for $230,000 to Perretti Farm. The 4-year-old trotting mare is in foal to Andover Hall and she’s a full sister to the multiple stakes and recent winner of the Kentucky Filly Futurity, Falls For You.

Ucalthisahoneymoon’s bloodlines are not new to the farm.

“We needed some new blood and we’ve been in this family through Armbro Éclair (a daughter of this mare’s third dam, Armbro Whirl),” said Marks. “What I liked about her is that she’s carrying an Andover Hall, it’s her first foal and the fee is paid and refundable, which is unusual at this stage of the game (the mare was last bred on March 19). She’s a sister to Falls For You, who’s won a half million dollars, so it looks like there’s going to be an economic upswing there. It’s a gamble. Probably privately the mare would not bring what she brought at the sale, but that’s why we have horse sales.”

Day Five sold for $180,000 to Diamond Creek Farm of Paris, Ky. A Donerail daughter out of the Worthy Bowl mare Scent Of A Woman, Day Five is a half sister to the stakes winning Self Professed, 4,1:53 ($677,477).

Day Five is a 3-year-old, not in foal, and with a mark of Q1:58.4, taken this year, with $3,810 in earnings. She also sold as part of the Yankeeland Farm dispersal.

Sales Manager Murray Brown was bouyed by the day’s outcome, as bidding ended just after 4:00 p.m.

“It continues to be strong and good mares were selling extremely well and even some not-so-good mares sold very well. It was really hard to buy a very good mare. I know that wearing my Hanover Shoe Farms hat (Brown is also their public relations director), I think of the first eight mares we bid on, we got one, but it bodes well for the industry and the market’s very strong.”
