Monticello, NY — Monticello Raceway will use the seventh race on Thursday, September 8 to raise funds for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.

“To assist in the aid required to bring recovery and relief to the Gulf Coast residents who have suffered immeasurable losses, Monticello Raceway will donate its share of the commissions that will be derived from the monies wagered on the seventh race on Thursday afternoon (September 8) to the United Way of Sullivan County, who will then send it south earmarked for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund,” Mighty M Gaming senior vice president Cliff Ehrlich said. “We’re giving our fans a chance to place bets and help the hurricane victims.”

“We are very pleased to be able to help those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina and 100% of the money we receive will be sent directly south for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund with absolutely no administration fees taken out,” explained Linda Cellini, C.P.O of United Way of Sullivan County.

The raceway’s effort follows on the heels of money raised by the personnel of Mighty M Gaming, who, on their own, are collecting funds for the Relief Effort.

The world knows that in time of trouble the American people will come to the rescue. It has happened so many times throughout the decades and not long ago America came to the aid of those who were devastated by the tsunami in Southeast Asia. And now, from the unprecedented force of nature that last week literally destroyed much of the Gulf Coast, Americans from all walks of life are now rallying to the aid of their fellow countrymen.

Organizations, groups and individuals have been responding by sending money to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund to assist the displaced citizens in southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and upon the completion of its seventh race on Thursday, Monticello Raceway will forward its donation to the United Way of Sullivan County.
