Moxie scores at Cal-Expo

from Cal-Expo Raceway

Sacramento, CA — Moxie, the odds-on favorite in the feature race at Cal-Expo on Friday night, January 23, rushed out of the gate, grabbed the lead and never looked back, winning in 1:543. The event was a pace for horses meeting certain conditions with $75,000 claimers also eligible and racing for a purse of $8,500.

Bruce Clarke got Here And Gone out second and they held that position through the finish. Luke Plano tipped Super Marc It out of fourth on the backstretch and he was able to save third after a tough trip.

Gilbert Garcia handles the winner for owners Bob and Loretta Staats of Reno. He is a six-year-old stud by Cole Muffler out of the Jamie Hanover dam Stand By N.

He has now chalked up lifetime earnings of just over $184,500.

The co feature was a $25,000 to $35,000 claimer and eight pacers showed up to race for a purse of $7,600. Public favorite Wilder Desperado took the lead away from EZ just past the opening quarter and just kept going to win in 1:542.

Lou Pena had the outside post and came from out of the clouds down the stretch to grab second ahead of Ed Hensley and Cavetto A, who came up the middle of the track.

Wilder Desperado has lost only twice in his last six races. The losses were on sloppy racetracks. He is great when he gets a fast track, and still wins on the track when it is rated good.

Lee and Arlene Gellerman and Cyril and Lola Green own the winner. Rick Plano both trains and drives him. He is a six-year-old gelding by Village Jiffy out of the No Nukes dam Armbro Louder. He has won 10 of his last 31 races.
