Murcielago wins by a head at Pompano

Pompano Beach, FL — After thunderstorms pushed through South Florida, necessitating a 23 minute delay, Wally Hennessey sent Murcielago ($8.00) right to the front and wired the field to win by a head in 1:54.1 in Saturday’s (June 21) $12,000 feature at Pompano Park.

Murcielago (#4) held off Flight Of Glory by a head in the Saturday feature.

With the track listed sloppy, it didn’t stop Hennessey from leaving out of post four and going right to the top and taking the field to a :27.2 first quarter. Murcielago kept in command as they passed the half-mile marker in :57.1 and paced to the three-quarters in 1:25.2.

Flight Of Glory (Andy Santeramo) finished second and Cape Karuna (Wally Ross, Jr.) took the third spot.

It was the fifth win of the year for Murcielago, a 6-year-old gelding by Cole Muffler, who is trained by Tom Harmer and owned by Michael E. Polansky.

Ignite My Fire and Bruce Ranger won the $8,000 Open 2 Pace in 1:54. This was Ignite My Fire’s fourth consecutive win for trainer Mike Deters and owners Pine Vue Stables LLC.
