My Metallica rocks Pompano feature

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – For the second consecutive week it took a multi-horse win photo to determine the winner of the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace from Pompano Park, as the 4-year-old mare My Metallica, at odds of 16-1, rolled four-wide down the lane to prevail by a neck in 1:53.

Driven from post four by trainer Tom Harmer, My Metallica was taken back at the start of the Friday feature, finding a spot on the pylons in fifth place as race favorite Velvet Eileen (Wally Hennessey) rocketed off the gate to take the lead, coasting through opening fractions of :27.3 and :57.1.

MY METALLICA (#4) and Tom Harmer sweep past HYPNOTIZE (#3), WILMA HALL (#5), MONTANA MOONLITE A (#1), and VELVET EILEEN (#2) to win the featured $10,000 Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace at Pompano Park on Friday in 1:53.

As Velvet Eileen showed the way down the backstretch, Wilma Hall (Bruce Ranger) was flushed out from third by Hypnotize (David Ingraham), who in turn supplied cover for My Metallica, who paced third over as the field reached the three-quarters marker in 1:25.

Velvet Eileen entered the stretch with a half-length advantage before yielding the top spot to Wilma Hall, who was overtaken by Hypnotize, who gave way in the shadow of the wire to the late-charging My Metallica.

My Metallica returned $35.60, $9.60, $14.60 for the victory. Hypnotize brought in $3.00, $5.40 for second, while Wilma Hall paid $5.20 for third.

Owned by Ciara Stable, Michael Polansky, and William Johnston, III, My Metallica has prevailed in two of eight starts this year. In addition to her winning performance on Friday, the mare scored in a $21,500 non-winners event at the Meadowlands on February 2 in 1:54.4.

In 2005, My Metallica was named Illinois-bred 2-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year after banking $140,165 with three wins from nine starts, including a victory in the $260,000 Orange and Blue Filly Pace at Balmoral Park.

‘WELU’S’ DREAMING OF THREE STRAIGHT

Welu’s Dreamboat will look to extend his winning streak to three when starting from post five as the 5-2 morning line favorite in Saturday’s $10,000 Isle Mile I Pace, the featured event from Pompano Park.

The son of Camluck exits a half-length victory in 1:53.1 when racing at the Isle Mile I level last week, and two outings ago on April 14 the gelding prevailed in 1:52 when competing against Isle Mile II rivals.

Anthony Napolitano is scheduled to drive Welu’s Dreamboat for trainer Jacques Dupuis.
