Nannnywithafanny equals aged mare track mark at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

by John Zimich, publicity director, Pocono Downs

Nannywithafanny, trained by Carmen Fusco and driven by George Napolitano, Jr., equaled the track record for aged paging mares at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs over the weekend.

Assigned the seven post, Napolitano, Jr., quickly took Nannywithafanny to the front in the $9,500 open handicap pace for fillies and mares Friday afternoon (May 12). She was trailed by A Very Nice Horse (Jim Taggart, Jr.) and Day After Day (Ed Lohmeyer) with the seven-horse field getting to the opening split in 27.1.

Nannywithafanny got to the half in 55.4 and three-quarters in 1:23.4 before tripping the timer in 1:52.1 to equal the aged pacing mark of Female Champs. The latter five-year-old mare previously had broken the mark on April 21 in the same condition with Kevin Sizer in the bike. Female Champs also went wire-to-wire in that race.

White Birch Farm of Allentown, N.J., own Female Champs while the trainer is Jeff Stafford. Nanny Withafanny is owned by JAC’s Success Stable, Maryland, and Robert A. Costello of Virginia.

Another track mark was equaled on Tuesday, May 9, when Armbro Barrister trotted the mile in 1:55.3 with Ray Schnittker in the sulky. This equaled the aged trotting mark for a stallion and previously recorded by Caneel By on July 6, 2005, with Mark Gingrich in the sulky. Paul Doherty trains Ambro Barrister, a five-year-old Malabar Man stallion.

Armbro Barrister is owned by Schnittker, Earl Scheelar and Kelk’s Inc., of New York.
