Northfield, OH — A couple of new contenders are on the horizon for the $125,000 Miller Lite Courageous Lady, set for Saturday, May 23, at Northfeld.

Hawaiian Drink qualified at the Meadowlands on Thursday, May 7, pacing in 1:53.1 for the Andersons, trainer Joe and driver Ryan, and owners Bulletproof Enterprises. She was the favorite in last year’s $700,000 Breeders Crown, where a tough trip did her in, but she won eight of 13 starts, including her Breeders Crown elimination and the $209,000 Matron Stake at Dover Downs in a world record 1:51.3, while earning $490,000 on the season.

Jordan’s Jewell, a supplemental nomination earlier this year, was second in an overnight event at Yonkers Raceway, timed in 1:56.4. After going undefeated in seven starts as a 2-year-old, she has posted a 5-2-2-0 summary this year for trainer Matthew Madeiros and Connecticut owners Beverly and Gary Paganelli.

The other supplemental nomination to the Courageous Lady, Best Of Ball (originally named Miss Whip), is undefeated in eight career starts after winning her 2009 debut in a $20,300 Ohio Sires Stake at Lebanon Raceway on May 1, timed in 1:59.3.
