NJSS Green Acres record equaled at Freehold

by Leon Zimmerman, for the New Jersey Sire Stakes

Beam Of Life, a son of Life Sign, led from start to finish Thursday (August 17) to win a $10,000 Green Acres Division of the New Jersey Sire Stakes at Freehold Raceway in 1:56.3, equaling the record for two-year-old pacing geldings.

Daniel Dube drove the pacer to his first career victory in only his second start ever for owners Anthony and Alma Iafelice of Cranbury and trainer William MacKenzie. He won by five and a half lengths over Paved Road, as Kings Point finished third. The gelding’s winning time matched the mark set in 2004 by Brokaw.

Winners of two other $10,000 Green Acres races for two-year-old pacers were the Cam’s Card Shark colts, Fancy Cardshark in 1:57.1, and Major Suit in 1:59.1

In two $10,000 Green Acres races for three-year-old pacing fillies, the winners were Eagle Boots, a daughter of Artsplace, in 1:55.3 and Sweet baby Jan, by Artiscape, in 1:57.2
