NJSS opens Freehold season on August 7-8

Trenton, NJ — The New Jersey Sire Stakes, which recently completed its pari-mutuel division racing program at The Meadowlands, begins its “second season” at Freehold Raceway on Thursday and Friday, August 7 and 8, with Green Acres division racing for 3-year-old pacers.

The top level NJSS pari-mutuel division begins August 9 at Freehold with competition for 2-year-old pacing colts.

The Green Acres series consists of four legs and a $35,000 final in each of eight divisions of 2- and 3-year-old pacers and trotters during August, September and October.

The pari-mutuel division series will consist of three legs and an $85,000 championship final in each of the same eight divisions.

Other special stakes races for New Jersey-sired pacers and trotters dominate the fall schedule at Freehold. In addition to the NJSS program, there will be six other stakes events, including the $90,000 Helen Smith Filly Trot on August 15, $80,000 Harold R. Dancer Filly Trot on September 16, $100,000 Dancer Open Trot on September 17, $110,000 Charles I. Smith Trot on October 17, and $175,000 Lou Babic Open Pace and $85,000 Babic Filly Pace on October 18.
