NJSS race dates at Freehold revised

by Leon Zimmerman, for the New Jersey Sire Stakes

Trenton, NJ — The schedule of New Jersey Sire Stakes races at Freehold Raceway this summer and fall has been revised with the elimination of Tuesdays as a race date by the track.

Changes in the Freehold racing schedule followed the enactment of legislation providing for a reduction in the total number of race dates for the track during the summer-fall meet, which is also starting a week later than originally scheduled.

The only changes in the NJSS Premier Division are for 3-year-old pacing fillies and 2-year-old trotting fillies.

For the 3-year-old filly pacers, the two preliminary legs are now scheduled for Saturdays, August 15 and 22. The $100,000 championship final will remain on Saturday, August 29.

For the 2-year-old filly trotters, the preliminary legs will now be on Wednesdays, August 12 and 19, and the $100,000 championship final on Wednesday, August 26.

In the NJSS Green Acres, the first three preliminary legs for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings will now be on Wednesdays, August 12, 19 and 26. The fourth leg and the $50,000 championship final will remain on Wednesdays, September 23 and 30, respectively.

Because the racetrack will not open until August 12, Green Acres preliminary legs previously announced as scheduled for the week before are now rescheduled.

The complete corrected schedule for Green Acres preliminary legs for 2-year-old filly pacers is as follows: August 13, 20 and 27 and September 3, with the $50,000 final on September 18.

The complete corrected schedule for Green Acres preliminary legs for 3-year-old filly pacers is as follows: August 14, 21 and 28 and September 4, with the $50,000 final on September 12.

Dates for all other NJSS Premier and Green Acres races remain as originally scheduled. A complete revised schedule is available at www.freeholdraceway.com.
