POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — After having a two-race winning streak snapped last week when missing by a head to Eleven A M, No Nonsense Yankee avenged that defeat on Saturday when going from last to first to post a 1:51.2 victory in the $14,000 Open Handicap pace at Pompano Park.

NO NONSENSE YANKEE (#7), driven by Wally Hennessey, holds off PREDATOR DVM (#5), driven by Kevin Wallis, to capture the featured $14,000 Open Handicap pace at Pompano Park on Saturday in 1:51.2.

Driven from post seven by Wally Hennessey, No Nonsense Yankee dropped back to last place in the seven-horse field as Sandstorm N (Daryl Bier) rocketed off the gate from the rail to take early control of the race, pacing on the lead through an opening quarter mile in :27.

As the pacers made their first journey by the grandstand, No Nonsense Yankee was moved off the pylons to begin an extended first-over bid towards the front, charging up to second place as Sandstorm N continued to march on the lead through middle fractions of :55.4 and 1:23.2.

No Nonsense Yankee wrestled the lead away from Sandstorm N on the final turn, sprinting clear of his rivals to open up a 1-1/2 length lead at the top of the stretch, before holding on determinedly down the lane to prevail by a half-length over a fast-closing Predator Dvm (Kevin Wallis). Paper Luck (Bruce Ranger) finished third.

Owned by Despina Powell and trainer Mike Deters, No Nonsense Yankee has visited the winner’s circle in three of his last six outings, and has hit the board in each of his last 14 starts dating back to September 22, 2007.

An 11-time winner last season, the 5-year-old gelded son of Jenna’s Beach Boy has prevailed 20 times during his 65-race career, with lifetime earnings of $109,468.
