Odee Tycony breaks long losing skid

Pompano Beach, FL — Odee Tycony, the longest shot on the board at odds of 49-1 and without a win in his last 25 starts over the past two years, upset the field at Pompano Park Harness Track on Friday, winning the fifth race $3,000 trot for driver Wally Hennessey and paying $101.80, $28.00 and $8.80 across the board.

Sweeping three wide from seventh place in the backstretch, Hennessey and Odee Tycony were able to collar the field by the top of the stretch and then come on to win by one and three-quarter lengths in 2:001 for the one mile race. Fester The Pester ($7.40, $4.20) was second with Sky Harbor ($9.40) third. The trifecta combination of 9-6-7 paid $5,976.80.

A seven-year-old gelding by D J Jackson, Odee Tycony is trained by Rodney Grady and is owned by George Mugnier of Granby, Massachusetts.

Mean St Partners tackles Open Pacers on Saturday

Mean St Partners, who sizzled to a lifetime best 1:512 triumph last week at Pompano Park in the Open II Pace, moves up in class to handle the best pacers on the grounds Saturday in the 10th race $11,500 Open Handicap.

Driven by Kevin Wallis, Mean St Partners starts from post five and is the 4-1 third choice in the race.

Cam In Black, despite finishing a close second last week in the Open, is the slim 5-2 favorite from post six for driver Vince Copeland. Two starts back he romped at Pompano by six and one-quarter lengths in a lifetime best 1:512.

The only other return winner in the field is Thunder Bay for trainer/driver Michael MacDonald on the far outside in post eight. Last week the duo teamed up with an impressive three wide move on the final turn to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.

Two pacers with winning streaks on the line Saturday are Rusty Mahoney A from the rail in the seventh race pace and Hebe in post eight in the fourth race pace. Both horses are going for their fourth straight triumphs. Last week Rusty Mahoney A scored a career best 1:533 mark for trainer/driver George Napolitano, Jr. while Hebe romped by seven and one-half lengths in 1:541 for driver Bruce Ranger.
