Ohio Sires Stake fillies shine at Lebanon Raceway

by Susan Wilson, for Lebanon Raceway

Lebanon, OH — Friday night (May 1) saw the 3-year-old pacing and trotting fillies take center stage at Lebanon Raceway for the first leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes. Nineteen fillies of each gait entered, resulting in two nine horse fields and two ten horse fields.

The rain stopped in time for the Sires Stakes but the fillies had a sticky track to contend with.

The first division of pacing fillies saw Best Of Ball, last year’s undefeated juvenile champion, go wire-to-wire for driver/trainer Jim Dailey, pacing her mile in 1:59.3. Crosswinds Cruiser and Stablecreekcruiser were second and third, respectively.

The Marty Woolam trained Noble Trixie won the second division of pacing fillies with Randy Tharps in the bike in a quick 1:57.2.

Woolam was also the winning trainer in the first division of trotting fillies with Get Chipped. Get Chipped was capably driven by Russell Swartz to a 2-3/4 length victory in 2:01.2.

The second division of trotters ended with Swartz again in the winner’s circle, this time behind the Tom Blankenship trained Rose Run Keepsake in 2:01.1.

Saturday night (May 2) will see the 3-year-old colts in town to contest the Ohio Sires Stakes for pacers and trotters. Post time is 6:30 p.m.
