Luc Ouellette was honored Monday evening at the Toronto oval for his achievements last season.

The 2005 season marked the second straight year that Ouellette captured the Woodbine/Mohawk drivers’ title. For the campaign, the father of two children drove in more races (2,091) than any other reinsman; won the most dashes (308); had the most second-place finishes (256); tallied the most third place miles (246) and earned the most purse money ($7,419,741).

“I never set my sites on being the leading driver,” said Ouellette, “I just do the best I can all the time, and it seems like it is paying off.

“I think this type of thing is the end result of working hard for 20 years. I think [the horsemen] have respect for me and trust me with their horses.

As for the ultra-competitive drivers’ colony at Woodbine Entertainment, Ouellette knows that its world-class.

“I think its as good as anywhere,” said Ouellette. “There are a lot of good, young guys who are only going to get better.”
