Pacey Deucey shows strong hand in Meadows Open

by Evan Pattak, for the Meadows

Meadow Lands, PA — Pacey Deucey had the strongest hand in the $16,000 Open Pace on Monday (March 31) at The Meadows, scoring in a sharp 1:51.2 and lowering his lifetime mark by 1.4 seconds in the process.

The son of Cam’s Card Shark moved first-over down the backside, and Tony Hall was able to guide him back to the pylons behind the race leader, Civil Attack. Pacey Deucey had plenty left for the drive, drawing off by 2-1/4 lengths over Vesuvio Grande while Civil Attack saved show. Kent Sherman trains Pacey Deucey for Kor-Ans Stables.

It was an afternoon of swift miles at The Meadows, none more impressive than the winning effort of Sure Duffy. An erstwhile regular in fast classes, Sure Duffy had dropped to lower conditioned ranks in an attempt to regain his best form — which was in evidence Monday.

His uncovered bid for Hall carried him to victory in 1:51.1, fastest mile this year at The Meadows. Garry Martin trains the son of Intrepid Seelster for Hugh Sutherland.
