Harrington, DE — John Cowan and Darryl Laver’s Spare Time Rozie ($4.40) won the featured $20,300 Open Trot on Wednesday (May 9) at Harrington Raceway in a track record time of 1:57. The mark established a new record for 4-year-old trotting mares.

Spare Time Rozie lowered the track mark for 4-year-old trotting mares.

The daughter of Earl and driver Tony Morgan surged to the front on the final turn and drew clear for an explosive open length victory over Bud Ross and Armbro Timothy.

It was her seventh win in 12 tries this year as her seasonal earnings soared to more than $111,000.

Later on the card, another track record was broken as M&M Harness Racing and Pat Lachance’s Winbak Red ($3.60) was victorious in 1:56.4, to set a new mark for 4-year-old trotting geldings.

Winbak Red’s 1:56.4 score was a new mark for 4-year-old trotting geldings.

The Muscles Yankee gelding outfought My Huckleberry and Royal Oak to the wire in a stirring stretch duel for the win. “Red” was also driven by Morgan.

While new marks for speed were being set over the course of the night, Bob Stevenson and J&E Stable’s Stormont Northstar (Eddie Davis, Jr.) added to his already impressive resume by winning his 26th career race at Harrington, more than any trotter in history.

The 13-year-old Brisco Hanover gelding has won 59 career races, and earned his second straight win in 2:00.2.
