Pair of NJ Futurity splits contested at Freehold

Manalapan, NJ — Tobago Cays and JK Kinahurra, both sons of Rocknroll Hanover, won divisions of the New Jersey Futurity for 2-year-old pacers on Saturday, October 10, at Freehold Raceway.

The New Jersey Futurity is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey and is restricted to offspring of New Jersey stallions.

Tobago Cays, who won the $34,500 first division, reached the winner’s circle for the first time in his career. The Ross Croghan trainee, who is out of the championship mare Bunny Lake, paced the mile in 1:56, finishing 5-1/2 lengths ahead of Gota Go Bullville (Matt’s Scooter) and Jo Pa’s Boss (Rocknroll Hanover). Jack Baggitt, Jr. was the winning driver.

Tobago Cays has finished in the money in five of 11 starts, earning $53,282 for Brian Nixon.

JK Kinahurra, driven by Cat Manzi and trained by Linda Toscano, prevailed by a half-length over Rockaroundtheclock (Rocknroll Hanover) in the $35,500 second division. It was two lengths back to Mighty Art (Artsplace) in third.

JK Kinahurra covered the mile in 1:57.2, improving his record to two wins, two seconds and two thirds in 11 starts, lifting his bankroll to $65,756. The 3 Brothers Stables owns and bred the colt.
