Pampered Princess headlines International Stallion Stake at The Red Mile on Wednesday

by Nick Salvi for the Red Mile

Fresh off her world record 1:54.4 victory in last week’s Bluegrass Stake, Pampered Princess returns to lead the entries for five $73,000 divisions of the International Stallion Stake at The Red Mile on Wednesday.

The Andover Hall filly wowed onlookers with her effortless record win, trotting a 27.4 final quarter without so much as a “C’mon girl” from driver John Campbell. Trained by Jimmy Takter for Bob and David Anderson, Pampered Princess is unbeaten in seven tries for earnings of over $400,000 on the season.

She’ll face Wishful Me, another Bluegrass division winner, and Adelaide Hall who was a closing second to Godiva Hall in last week’s stake. Their division is carded as race eleven on the day.

Two other divisions offer match-ups of Bluegrass winners. In race three, the top Kentucky bred filly Godiva Hall (Like A Prayer) puts her four-race skein on the line against highly regarded Michelle’s Angel.

Godiva Hall swept through the KYSS program for the Pete Foley barn and owners Steve & Gene Oldford before mowing down a Grand Circuit field in her Bluegrass split. Michelle’s Jewel is bred in the purple, an Andover Hall from the multiple stakes winning mare Almost An Angel. She has won half of her eight starts and took a 1:56.3 record last week for owner Jeffrey Snyder. R. “Nifty” Norman trains.

The fourth race features Possess The Magic (Self Possessed) a winner of seven of ten starts, including a Bluegrass division, and over $350,000 for Gurf Trot and owner Brittany Farms thus far facing off against Likely Volo, a surprise winner last week. Likely Volo (Yankee Glide) broke her maiden in the Bluegrass in 1:57 with something left for driver Chris Christoforou. Anders Wolden trains her for Norwegian interests. Also of note in this division is Irene’s Lucky Lady, a half sister to Mr. Muscleman. She returns to Lexington after winning the Michigan Sires Stake final for Adam Victor & Son.

Post time Wednesday is 12:30 PM. The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale begins Wednesday evening at 7:00 at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion and continues at that time through Saturday with a matinee session scheduled for Sunday.
