$1 Pick 4 — Races 7 through 10
The Play: 12/1567/2/4567 = $32
Analysis:
This is a pretty tough sequence. It looks like I may be able to get away with using the two favorites in the first leg, especially since the one is a two-horse Burke entry.
But the eighth race is wide open and anything could happen, so I used four horses. My top pick is Pangiorno. I liked him last week but he was used hard to get the lead and then broke stride while tiring in the stretch. It looked to me like he hit a wheel so I don’t think he would have broke on his own.
In the ninth I went for the obvious single, Gallant Yankee, who has the rail and has paced some huge miles at Yonkers this year. If Gallant Yankee loses, the Pick 4 should pay big so I’m not sure that using him as a single is the best strategy tonight.
In the 10th race, it’s another wide open race.
Below is how I handicapped and ranked the contenders.
7th Race: 1-2-6
8th Race: 1-6-5-7
9th Race: 2-1-4
10th Race: 6-4-7-5
