Pandy’s Picks: Feb. 22 M

by Bob Pandolfo

Bob Pandolfo offers his picks for the $50,000 Pick-4 at Meadowlands Racetrack on Feb. 22, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Meadowlands Pick-4, Races 7-10, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014

The Pick-4 paid $9,788 last night, with seven winning tickets, and that surprised me. I only had one winner as two bombs, $61 and $43, came in. Last night my $48 ticket did not hit. I have one hit so far this year for $1,144.50 on the whale ticket and no winners on the standard tickets. Meet totals: 20 plays, 0 hits, -$780. Whale ticket: 10 plays, one hit, -$2,071.50.

Standard ticket: $1 play: 8/12510/1345/711 = $32
Whale ticket: $1 play: 12678/12510/134578/15711 = $480

Analysis:

Race 7: Wide open C-1 with some pretty fast horses. I did make a horse, (8) Spender Hanover, my Best Bet here so I’ll try a longshot single.

Race 8: Things don’t get much easier in this wide open B-2 so I used all four of my listed contenders.

Race 9: This race is a C-1 pace and it is extremely wide open. I’m going to try to get through with my top four. The big bettors will be spreading here or pushing the “all” button.

Race 10: The final race of the Pick-4 has an odds-on favorite, which is a rarity in the late Pick-4. The horse is (7) Shadow Margeaux but I’m not sold on him. I’ll use two, the old 7-11.
