Pandy’s Picks: May 1 BmlP

by Bob Pandolfo

Bob Pandolfo offers his picks for the $25,000 Pick 4 at Balmoral Park on May 1, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering program.

Balmoral Park Pick 4, Races 7-10, Sunday, May 1, 2011

No luck at Balmoral last night. I hit the Pick 4 at Maywood Thursday night, $138.50 payoff, and my ticket was $48 so the profit was $90.50. That gave me four wins and a profit so far since this series started, with two wins at Balmoral, one at Northfield, and one at Maywood.

Tonight I’ve got two tickets for a total of $18.

$1 play: 6/139/25/36 = $12
$1 play: 6/139/25/6 = $6

Analysis:

7th Race: Hitithard raced against tougher in last at Hoosier, won his last start at this level and I’ll single him here.

8th Race: The most competitive race of the sequence. Won The Battle comes off a sick scratch but has ability and returns from Hoosier. Brush Thirteen is a lightly raced 3-year-old on the improve. Ginnysdoodledandy comes off repeat wins at this level but gets post 10.

9th Race: Odds On Moinet hasn’t raced since December but was facing older Open mares at Dover. She seems well prepped for return and this is quite a drop. Fax Me raced well in the Night Styles series at the Meadowlands, then was dismal at Hoosier, but some horses just don’t handle that surface. Kennans Kelli is a classy mare coming off a nice win against a weaker field but I’m going with a conservative ticket tonight and leaving her out.

10th Race: Yermanos is the chalk coming off three wins at this same level and looks tough on or off the pace here. Foxy Guy put in a nice first over try against Yermanos.

Here is how I rank the contenders.

7th Race: 6-2-3
8th Race: 1-3-9
9th Race: 2-5-4
10th Race: 6-3-10-5
