by Bob Pandolfo

Bob Pandolfo offers his picks for the $50,000 Pick-4 at Meadowlands Racetrack on May 23, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Meadowlands Pick-4, Races 7-10, Friday, May 23, 2014

I hit the Pick-4 two nights in a row, last Friday and the prior Saturday. Friday night for 50 cents it paid $176.65. I had it once on the whale ticket, which was $48. Championship meet totals: standard ticket, six plays, -$76.10. Whale ticket, four plays, +108.55.

For the winter meet, I had one hit for $1,144.50 on the whale ticket and no winners on the standard tickets. Winter meet totals: 44 plays, 0 hits, -$1,236.00. Whale ticket: 17 plays, one hit, -$2,938.50.

Standard ticket: 50 cent play: 247/357/37/345 = $27
Whale ticket: 50 cent play: None tonight

Analysis:

Race 7: Wide open race. I’m using three, 2, 4, 7, and leaving out the potential favorite.

Race 8: This is a very tough trot race. I’m going to use 3, 5, 7, but it is a scramble.

Race 9: (3) Jarnac doesn’t win often but she has been racing gamely against better fields. (7) Angel Ofthe West comes off a sharp effort.

Race 10: There isn’t a lot of form here. (5) Coe Leader drops for third start of the year. (3) Mr Ridgetaker had no shot against tougher and drops while getting a better post. (4) Calipari needed last.
