Peaceful Way romped to a five length victory in the second of three $25,000 Delvin Miller Memorial eliminations.

She trotted the mile in 1:533, a season’s record for three-year-old trotting fillies and faster than the Miller Final stakes record of 1:542.

“This was the first time I’ve driven her,” John Campbell said after the winning effort. “She’s capable of better from her lines. She’s had minor problems, but she seems as if she’s overcome them.”

At two, Peaceful Way won eight of 10 starts and earned $733,726 for the Goin My Way Stable of Holland, Pennsylvania; Angie Stiller of Arva, Ontario; and David Tingley, her trainer, from Guelph, Ontario.

This was her first win in two starts this year.

Silver Springs ($3.20, $2.10) was second and Invincible Dream ($2.10) was third by nine and a half lengths.

Also winning their Miller elims were Self Indulgent and Housethatruthbuilt.

Self Indulgent ($4.20, $2.60, $2.20), driven by David Miller and trained by Jimmy Takter, won by a half length over Mystical Sunshine ($2.80, $2.20) in 1:543 in the second race, the first elimination. It was three and three-quarter lengths to In The Shell ($2.80) in third.

Owned by the Perretti Racing Stable of Cream Ridge, New Jersey and Lindy Racing Stable of Enfield, Connecticut, Self Indulgent posted her third win in five starts this year.

“She seems like she’s coming into top form now,” Miller said of the daughter of Self Possessed. “Hopefully she holds it and keeps the form for the next three weeks.”

“She raced well,” Campbell said of runner up Mystical Sunshine. “I got the trip I had hoped. I wanted to follow David’s filly (Miller with Self Indulgent). We just couldn’t outkick her in the end. She has shown she can race with the top fillies at Woodbine. I think she will be a factor next week.”

In the fifth race, the final elimination, Housethatruthbuilt ($4.00, $2.60, $2.10) rallied for a two and a half length victory in 1:542. Have You Ever ($4.00, $2.20) skimmed the pylons to edge out Rant N Rave ($2.20) for the place position.

Housethatruthbuilt, the winner of three straight and four of five this year, was driven to victory by Brian Sears. Trained by Trond Smedshammer, she is owned by Patricia Spinelli of Oyster Bay Cove, New York and Theodore Gewertz of New York City.

“I was being careful with her on the first turn,” noted Sears. “I was three deep most of the quarter. When I got to the front at the half, I did my best to keep there.”

Ivy Swinger, the fastest fourth place finisher from the fifth race, joins the top three from each elimination division in the $325,000 Miller Final on Friday, July 16 at the Meadowlands.
