EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – January 29, 2004 – Trainer Brett Pelling sent out starters in six races on Thursday night at the Meadowlands and won five, one shy of his own track record.
Art Aficionado [$4.40], driven by Ron Pierce, won the first race for Pelling, whose Enzed Racing Stable of Allentown, New Jersey, owns the three-year-old Artiscape colt in partnership with John Rizzo.
Enzed Stable’s Trick Pony [$12.40], with Brian Sears driving, provided Pelling’s second winner in the third race.
In the fourth race, Sears guided the Pelling-trained Point Well Taken [$6.80] to victory for owners Steven Held, Thomas Neppell and Nick Barbieri.
David Miller was driving when Midnight Art [$3.80], racing for the Brittany Farms and Val D’Or Farms, annexed the sixth race for Pelling’s fourth winner on the night.
Pelling had two more chances – Great Tempo in the ninth race and Tuapeka Lightnin N in the tenth race. Great Tempo finished fifth but Enzed Racing Stable’s Tuapeka Lightnin N [$4.40], Miller driving, provided Pelling’s fifth winner on the night.
The Auckland, New Zealand-born Pelling, 45, set the Meadowlands track record of six training winners on one program on April 17, 1996. He has captured seven training titles at the Meadowlands since 1990.
